About BIBA

The British Insurance Brokers’ Association (BIBA) is the UK’s leading general insurance intermediary organisation representing the interests of insurance brokers, intermediaries and their customers.

BIBA membership includes just under 2,000 regulated firms having merged with the Institute of Insurance Brokers (IIB) in November 2011. General insurance brokers contribute 1% of GDP to the UK economy and BIBA brokers employ more than 100,000 staff.

54% of all general insurance is sold by an insurance broker and they arrange 78% of all commercial insurance business. Insurance brokers put the client’s interests first, providing advice, access to suitable insurance protection and risk management.

BIBA helps more than 250,000 people a year to access insurance protection through its Find-A-Broker service, both online and via the telephone.

BIBA is the voice of the sector advising members, the regulators, consumer bodies and other stakeholders on key insurance issues.

We strive to achieve this by:

  • Promoting the services and the value of members’ contribution to the protection of our futures with advice, guidance, access to risk management and insurance solutions and by influencing the relevant decision makers and policy writers that affect our sector
  • Maintaining and developing a stable business environment in which our members operate by keeping them informed of relevant issues, providing a forum for discussion and the exchange of non-competitive information
  • Supporting members both collectively and individually through a series of facilities and support services
  • By promoting, influencing, maintaining and supporting our members, we aim to help create an environment where members can deliver first class insurance solutions for their customers

BIBA Code of Conduct

The British Insurance Brokers' Association (BIBA) has launched its voluntary code of conduct for members.

  • ABIDE BY ALL RELEVANT LAWS, PRINCIPLES AND REGULATIONS. Understanding and ensuring we comply with regulatory principles and work within the law.
  • ACT WITH INTEGRITY AND HONESTY. We should conduct ourselves in a fair, reliable, trustworthy and respectful manner with all our stakeholders.
  • ACT IN THE BEST INTERESTS OF EACH CLIENT. We have a duty to act in a manner which pays due regard to the best interests of each client and ensure decisions and recommendations are based on a clear understanding of their needs, priorities, concerns and circumstances.
  • ACT WITH SKILL, CATE AND DILIGENCE. We act at all times with high levels of skill, care and diligence.
